Each Issue we want to take a moment to celebrate one of the
many characters here at
ReVo.
This issue
Victor “Sl ick Vic” Steinkopf
was nomiated.
So we took some time to track him down and tell us about the
role and a bit about the man behind it.
Q.
How did the character Slick
come into creation?
Slick came about not long after I
started watching the first season of
SoA when it began airing on FX.
The entire idea of the show just
enamored me, because the world was
so rich and intriguing.
I didn’t know much about Motorcy-
cle Clubs, but I started reading up
on them pretty thoroughly. In his
inception, he was the Sergeant at
Arms for the charter (this one set in
a Charming clone). That came from
Tig, who in the first season quickly
grew to be my favorite character.
Henry Rollins was another influ-
ence. He was Slick’s original mod-
el, and I just thought Rollins was
someone who looked like they fit in
that world. Granted, this was before
he was even cast in the second season
as AJ Weston. But with Tig, being a
brutal former Marine and pervert,
and Rollins, who’s a rebel with a lot
of self-discipline, that was the back-
bone of his character creation.
Q.
Tell us a little about
slick. What are his dreams, his
goals in life? Is the club some-
thing he does to get by or is he
in it heart and soul?
Slick is originally from Vegas. His
dad, a low level mob thug, died
when he was a teenager, and his
mom, a former showgirl, died of
lung cancer when he was 20. He
was in the marines for four years,
and joined the club not long after
getting out. He eventually gained
the Sgt-At-Arms spot through some
acts of bravery and a stint in jail,
before rising through the ranks to
the Presidency.
His dreams and goals aren’t fully
realized yet because of the changes
that have happened to him in the
room. One dream would be that he
wants to see his son, Pete, grow up
and without pain. His goals, mostly
short term, involve keeping his club
safe and prosperous, though he’s
unsure how to go about it or if it’s
even possible.
As for the Club, he is in it Heart and
Soul, even if both are conflicted over
his roll in the Club, the state of the
Club, and what to do with it. He’s
jaded by the war and bloodshed of
the Club while understanding its ne-
cessity at times, though he questions
what kind of person it has made
him. At the same time, he’s not sure
there’s anything for him outside of
its existence.
Q.
What is one of the scar-
iest moments that you recall
happening to Slick?
The scariest would be when Mela-
nie Torino, the former First Lady of
the Club, revealed to her husband
Raleigh that Slick had been instru-
mental in a kidnapping that nearly
got her killed. While Slick was in the
same room with the man.
Q.
What is one of the funniest
moments?
It would have to either be when he
got shot in the ass during a shootout
in one of the bars the club’s fre-
