ReVo
Readers
Here at Roleplay eVolution we pride ourselves in forging
the path to the new and exciting! Every day we thrive
to bring you the fresh ideas, and The ReVo Readers
is one such idea. Late last year two of our members,
mouth and Ali, started a book club exclusively for ReVo
members. Who knew that a community of roleplayers
would like to... read? We were able to grab them to get
the skinny on The ReVo Readers.
Books and Friends
What more do you need?
We had a tie in our poll for the from Fantasy Envisioned genre next so we
read Morrigan’s Cross by Nora Roberts and Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott
Lynch. In March we voted on a historical selection!
mouth : A thing I like about this Club is we are always evolving. Trying
one thing and if it works, going with it, if it dosent, ditching it and trying
something else. A suggestion came up from another reader for some
different catagories, such as; First book ever published by an author,
and First book in a series. That sort of thing. A great idea, so that will be
implemented soon.
How does that work? Does everyone have to read both
books at the same time? Do you and mouth read both
books?
Ali: Absolutely not! No one ever has to read any of the books. I read both
books last month and I am reading both books this month, and I think
mouth has read every book that has ever been written at least twice!
Generally, we will each read one of the books and participate in the
discussion for that book. I am just a greedy book nerd and like to hijack
mouth’s discussion threads.
mouth *smiles at Ali’s comments*.
Ali would have to be one of the smartest people I know, and has great
skills at holding and contributing to discussions, So to have her join a
thread is lovely. But no,you dont have to read both books. For example,
I chose not to read the SOA book. Life is way too short to read books you
dont want to. Its a personal choice thing, always. As it should be.
What do you think your biggest success has been with
the Readers thus far?
Ali: This is so going to open up a huge can of worms! Can I insert a little
disclaimer here? This is 100% my opinion and does not represent the
opinions of The ReVo Readers. I feel like introducing the others to The
Marketplace series provided a nice alternative to the 50 Shades of Grey
phenomenon sweeping the nation. Even if we only reached a dozen of
our friends we were still able to demonstrate that there are other, just as
entertaining, options for discovery.
mouth: For me, it would be enabling others who, for whtever reasons,
couldnt access the books. Wether it be time, format, or money. Through
the Club, its now possible for it to happen. It also allows readers to look at
different genres where they might not have done so before.
What about pitfalls?
Ali: I wouldn’t really call it a pitfall, but the biggest issue that we have had
to overcome is having more people vote for the next book than actually
participating. Always before we have set up anonymous polls with a list
of all suggested books to choose from and the ability to choose your top
three books. We had at least three times as many voting for the book
than participating. So, we are going to mix it up a little next month!
mouth: Ali said it all. We only ask that people comment, even just one line.
Then we know we’re not wasting time or resources.
It sounds like you guys have it all figured out! My last
question is... how can I join The ReVo Readers?
Ali: If you’re a member of ReVo you’re already a member of The ReVo
Readers! Honestly, if you like the idea of reading free books (yes, free!)
and hanging out with your friends, stop by and check us out!

mouth: Failing that, shoot Ali or myself a shout on skype, or a PM on
the board and we’ll be happy to help you sort it out.
Wait! What? Free books?
Ali: I thought that might catch you! Absolutely, free! The ReVo Readers
has a shared Amazon account that is funded by mouth and I. If you have
a smart device such as a tablet or phone with the capability of download-
ing the Kindle App or even a computer with a browser window you can
log into the Readers account and access the book. We just ask that you
respect that the funds on the account are for the purchase of ReVo Reader
book selections and only access the account to read the book. Just get
with one of us and we’ll get you set up!
But, what if I want to read the book on Nook or Kobo?
Ali and mouth: You can do that too! We post a link where you can
download book in whichever file format is supported by your e-reader
(.epub or .mobi) with instructions on how to load the file onto your
e-reader. Piece of cake! The only formats that we do not currently offer
are audio and actual hard copy.

An almost overwhelming
responsewhenwe ask for
book suggestions
>Ali
How did you come up with the idea to start a book club?
Ali: It was one of those simultaneous, finish each other’s sentences, type of
thoughts. You would be surprised how often that actually happens! We were
just talking one day and one thought bled into another until we were so in
sync the book club very nearly planned itself.
I have always wanted to join a book club, but various factors in life never
really presented an opportunity. When mouth said she wanted to start a club
it was the perfect opportunity! Every single time I read a book, I wished that
someone else was reading it at the exact same time, sharing that exact same
fall into another world. Ultimately, we just want to experience books with our
friends. We both love a great discussion, and this was a perfect way to not
only broaden our horizons and read books that we may not normally choose
but to open ourselves to other viewpoints, too. We figured if these were
things that we were interested in others are likely interested in it too!
mouth: One of the things I love most is a serious well thought out discussion,
wether it be be books, movies, current affairs or just a topic thrown out. It
fascinates me that two or more people can read the same thing and come out
with completely different views, and this book club caters to that very well. I
dont care that someone may disagree with me, in fact I prefer it.. Its the actual
discussion itself I love. Ali is the same, and we often discuss things together,
at great length, so the Club seemed perfect to expand that idea. The more, the
merrier.
There are so many incredible books, picking just one is
almost inconceivable. How do you choose which book you
are going to read?
Ali: You’re absolutely right! Even narrowing it down into a specific genre
every month we still have an almost overwhelming response when we ask for
book suggestions. When we kicked it off in November, mouth and I decided
to go with what we knew and chose the book and the genre. We read Laura
Antoniou’s The Marketplace, a great contemporary selection about the BDSM
lifestyle that everyone enjoyed! Since then we have chosen the book by
taking suggestions from the Readers and voting for our next book.
mouth :A lot of the people at Revo are readers themselves, so one thing we
are never short of is suggestions. In fact, quite the opposite. Last month we
had so many suggestions, we had to cull the list before voting. Nothing is ever
set in stone though, it isnt that kind of club. So if a book is left off the voting
list for a reason, the person that wanted it can come to Ali or myself and say
”Hey, I REALLY want that book..please?” and we are always willing to listen.
Tell us a little more about the genres.
Ali: To ensure that we hit everyone’s taste and to tie it into ReVo we rotate
through the ReVo genres every month! Creative Dimensions, Erotica
Impulses, Fantasy Envisioned, Gor Unchained, History Relived, and
Supernatural Awakening.
We tapped Erotica Impulses in November/December with The Marketplace
and picked up with Creative Dimensions in January with the recently released
Sons of Anarchy: Bravta by Christopher Golden. It was incredible timing with
the release of that book and the end of the series when we were ready to hit
that genre. Unfortunately, the consensus that Christopher Golden is definitely
not Kurt Sutter was pretty unanimous!
