your friend in this phase, too.
Most of us do not just have
names dripping off our tongue,
but, with all the baby naming
sites (especially ones where
you can select nationality or
origin), naming your character
is a breeze. Keep in mind
that the setting and, likely, the
personality of your character will
need to be
considered in your choice of
name.
You won't want your Filipino
goddess to have an old Gaelic
name. Sometimes you can
even find a name generator that
will name your character for
you.
"Google it!" as Dark would say.
Wow! You realize that almost
have a character, right? You
have a name and a model with
a concept that will fit nicely into
this new room.
Now you just need to know her
history. Who is she? Where
does she come from? What are
her drivers? Even if she is only
18 years old she has a history.
She has experiences that have
shaped her into the person that
she is today, and you will need
to know these inside and out.
Another tip? Even if your room
does not require a character
sheet it is a great way to
organize your character and
create a reference sheet for
you and other players to refer
to when needed. Following the
flow of the sheet also helps in
the creation process - it almost
writes itself!
You have a character with
possibly even a sheet posted
and approved! You have spent
hours getting into the head of
your character while creating
a brilliant avatar and now you
are in the new room with your
friends in your hot new avatar
and everyone is having a blast
trading posts... and nothing.
You are nervous. You don't
want to interrupt or just jump
into a roleplay already in
progress. Ironically, this is the
biggest hindrance that keeps
people from playing in a room.
You may see ten characters
coded up and only two playing.
Chances are they are in a public
room roleplaying because they
want to interact with others.
Don't be afraid... just post.
We had the opportunity to sit down
with one of the owners of Newport
After Dark, the latest room to open
on Roleplay Evolution, and ask.
“Why? Why are character sheets
a necessary aspect of character
creation?”
As we were speaking, Nick was
tackling the daunting task of
constructing Newport After Dark,
so he didn’t have a lot of time.
He was able to clarify for me that
character sheets are needed so that
the roleplayers know the history of
the character, especially with more
powerful characters.
“They have to explain how they
became a leader and what they did
to gain all that power.”
On the other hand, Nick is all
about finding a balance for his
roleplayers. He understands that
not everyone enjoys the character
sheet aspect of creating a character
to play in a room. Character
sheets will only be required in
Newport for those wishing to
play leader characters or claim a
certain model for their avatars.
